Glacier Bay
24.05.2007
We sailed Sunday evening, Monday, and part of Tuesday to arrive in Glacier Bay National Park. At Bartlett Cove a Park Ranger and Tlingit Hoonah Interpreter embarked.
Our first major glacier was Margerie Glacier. We spent a relaxing day viewing the spectacular "world of ice".
Luckily, the weather was awesome - sunny and warm (for Alaska) which allowed us to see "calving". This is when parts of the glacier fall into the sea. It makes a huge sound similar to thunder.
Unfortunately, John Hopkins Glacier was restricted so that the seals and their pups were not disturbed. A great day with perfect weather!!
